Knee Osteoarthritis Program bullet  GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Can I claim a health fund rebate for this program?

Possibly, if you have suitable private health insurance, particularly for the initial and final review. As the program is tailored to you, we can only confirm this after your assessment.

Can I use a care plan for this program?

Your GP determines your eligibility for a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP). If eligible, ask your GP to refer you for Exercise Physiology and Physiotherapy sessions. This can apply to your Initial Assessment and final review, which are individual consultations. CDMP rebates do not apply to the group exercise sessions. Eligible patients can access up to 5 allied health sessions under Medicare per calendar year, shared across all allied health services used.

Do I need to pay upfront for the 6-week program?

Yes. Paying upfront keeps you accountable, and consistency is what drives results.

Can I pause the 6-week program if I'm away?

If you're away for 7 days or more and give reasonable notice, yes. Other circumstances are handled case by case.

How is progress measured in the knee osteoarthritis program?

We use validated tools including the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) and the Patient-Specific Functional Scale, alongside movement patterns identified in your first assessment.

I've tried exercise before and it didn't help. Will BJC Health's program be different?

This program is coordinated rather than generic. Your Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist work from the same plan and adjust it as you progress, instead of following a fixed program regardless of how you're responding.
