I’ve always found it interesting that much of the language used in health care can be kind of strong, at times even sounding like we are describing some type a war.

  • We often mention someone’s healthcare 🪖 battle
  • Immune System 💥 under attack?
  • Take (insert product name here) to 🗡 fight coughs and colds!
  • “My back’s been 😵 killing me!

When you’re describing your body or health, do you ever find yourself using these words? If you don’t say them, do you think them?

If we lean into this theme a little, I can see how it can work. There are obstacles aplenty and seemingly endless hurdles to overcome when it comes to managing health.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • It can feel like a real 🗺 mission to figure out who might be able to help you
  • Making any progress can feel like a real 🏔 uphill climb
  • You might come across 🥊 hostility as you to try to get your questions answered
  • Holding down the fort 🏰 at work/home whilst trying to embed some new habits

So, with all these challenges and obstacles is it any wonder that so many of us feel overwhelmed when it comes to managing our health?

Shall we just give up on our quest for great health?

I’m definitely not campaigning for this to be the case! I can’t think of many other things that are worth fighting for then good health. But I’ve come to realise that just like in any fight against adversity, we all need allies and some good weapons to help us gain territory.

Now although there are many days in our calendar to help celebrate and raise awareness of different causes, campaigns and groups. I was surprised to see that us Allied Health Professionals have such a day (this year it falls on Friday October 14th).

So what is an Allied Health Professional?

The definition I found on the NSW Health website I’ve popped right here below.

“The Allied Health Workforce is a diverse group of individual professions who work in a team in a range of settings across the lifespan.”

Still a bit confused? Me too LOL. And I am an Allied Health Professional!

Perhaps it really doesn't matter what an Allied Health Professional does, it is much more important to know if one can help you with the fight!

How do you know if you need one? You could ask your doctor or if you'd like you can try the quiz here to get an idea.
